People at the High River show were asking me for details of this accident involving the classic truck from Strathmore, owned by Shannon and Harold Zegil. The mishap occurred during the cruise after the Radium show on September 21.
Harold Zegil gave me some further details: “We are really banged up and really sore. Have some broken bones and stitches and we are just trying to recover right now. The SUV did turn left out in front of me. I didn’t have much of a chance to stop and hit the brakes and that was it.”
Here’s wishing the Zegils a speedy recovery from their injuries.
If the name sounds familiar, Zegil Automotive is the co-sponsor of an annual car show in Strathmore.
Here is a link to the article from the Columbia Valley Pioneer: Vintage Truck Catches Fire After Collision.
The text of the article is below:
“A collision between an SUV and a vintage truck caused injuries on September 21 at the intersection of Athalmer Road and Lakeview Road.
Columbia Valley RCMP report that the SUV pulled out to turn onto Lakeview Road (coming down the hill) in front of the classic truck. A collision occurred and the truck burst into flames.
Speed did not appear to be a factor, according to police.
The accident occurred on the same day as the “Show and Shine” classic car event in Radium.
Invermere Fire Chief Jason Row told the Pioneer that they responded for an “extrication” because it was reported that someone was possibly trapped in one of the vehicles. However, RCMP Sgt. Ed deLong said nobody had to be extricated, and only minor injuries resulted.”
