Calgary – Aspen Heights has the best car show lunch

The car owners were well-fed at the Aspen Heights Retirement Residence car show today. Steak, two choices of salads, wraps, corn on the cob, and a variety of pastries for dessert. I enjoyed a visit with my brother in Medicine Hat on Friday and stayed over for the car show in Redcliff on Saturday. This was a first-class show hosted by the Redcliff Lions club and was beyond all my expectations for the number and quality of the vehicles on display. Once it was a town a few miles from Calgary but Shepard is now a part of Calgary in the deep southeast. Thirty years ago I drove past this location frequently during the summer as I was hauling my race car to Race City Speedway. It's nice to have a new venue in the city for a car show. What a wonderful show! I find it so easy to connect with the seniors, possibly because I'm old, too. It was a pleasant afternoon in McKenzie Towne, chatting with the residents, eating hot dogs, petting friendly dogs, and looking at classic cars. The quote is from the 1953 Motorama at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York city, but it could have been today in Calgary. The all-original 1953 Corvette was an amazing sighting at the Corvette show at Capital Chevrolet. Only 300 were produced, and we have one right here in Calgary. I attended four Wild Wednesdays this summer and collected photos of the older vehicles in attendance. This is turning out to be the year of the barn find. Stew was showing his recently discovered 69 Firebird convertible which was covered in dust in an old quonset not too long ago. (Updated) There were some unique cars at the Morrin car show today but none more interesting than Wayne's 1950 Ford. It's becoming increasingly rare to hear of an actual barn find anymore but this car was recently found in the Morrin area, just a few kilometres from town, in an old barn which had collapsed around the car.
