North Dakota is south of the area in Saskatchewan where I grew up and still have family and friends, so in addition to visiting and renewing acquaintances, I headed out to see what’s billed as the biggest, hottest car show in the Peace Garden state.
Devil’s Lake turned out to be an incredibly welcoming and friendly community. I was treated like a celebrity by the organizers and everyone I met. It’s not just a one-day car show. It’s a four-day event including lots of delicious food and the Saturday morning parade which I’ve already posted.

I was thrilled to spot quite a few fellow Canadians who had made the trek down from Manitoba, proving that a passion for classic steel easily trumps international borders.
One of my favourites of the weekend was the 57 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon, restored to immaculate, showroom-stock condition by its owner, Ken Amundson of Minot, ND. This wagon stood out by staying true to its roots—a beautifully preserved slice of 1950s Americana that looked like it had stepped right out of a vintage showroom.
The photos below include pictures from the Saturday show at Roosevelt Park, the Friday night event at the Casino, and random photos from the streets and hotels in Devil’s Lake.
