Every once in a while, you stumble across a piece of history that completely stops you in your tracks. That’s exactly what happened to me at the Strathmore Fun Runners show.
1917 Gray-Dort: Going into today, I had honestly never even heard of a Gray-Dort but some internet research revealed a fascinating piece of Canadian automotive history. Manufactured in Chatham, Ontario between 1915 and 1925, these cars were popular in their day, with around 26,000 rolling off the line. Today, it’s believed that fewer than 100 of them still exist. There, on the shores of the Strathmore pond, was a stunning, surviving 1917 Gray-Dort.
The show was packed with rare sights, pristine restorations, and a few surprises:
-
1927 Hudson & 1955 Chev Nomad: Both of these beauties were making their official car show debuts. It was a pleasure meeting the owners of these two cars and hearing their stories.
-
1979 Dodge Aspen SE: You don’t expect to see a late 70s Dodge Aspen at a car show these days, let alone one kept in such remarkable showroom condition.
It was a hot day in southern Alberta so the Kinsmen park with lots of shade was a great spot for this event. Thanks to the Strathmore Fun Runners for a fabulous show.
