Wrapping Up Another Unforgettable Season at NiceOldCars
What a summer it’s been! The 2026 season was officially one for the record books with an incredible 242 events on the Southern Alberta Car Show Calendar.
I posted 5400 photos from 42 events on the Photos Page.
And that’s just the main events. If you factor in all the weekly local meets and cruise-ins, you can easily add dozens more to the list! If you need a reminder of how I got started in this, I began listing shows on my website part-way through the summer in 2021 due to an absence of other calendars during the pandemic. It was meant to be a temporary fill-in for that year only, but here we are. My original intention was to have a non-Facebook site for posting pictures from the car shows I attended and not including a calendar. It’s amazing to see how much the calendar has grown since the first full year in 2022.
Beyond keeping the calendar updated, I personally designed custom posters for 70 shows this season. My top priority was making sure every poster actually included the event location, a crucial detail that surprisingly gets left off way too many flyers! Nobody reading my posters had to wander around asking where to go this year.
I also stretched the boundaries of the NiceOldCars Empire farther than ever before, hitting the pavement for long-haul road trips to fantastic events across state and provincial lines. Highlights included stops in Great Falls and Shelby, Montana; Devil’s Lake, North Dakota; Smoky Lake in northern Alberta; and Milestone, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, and Kindersley, Saskatchewan.
As much as I love classic cars, the true highlight of every trip will always be the people. Connecting with fellow enthusiasts and building lasting friendships within this hobby is what keeps my engine running. You simply won’t find a better community anywhere.
Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who pitched in and made a donation to help support the website this season. Your generosity keeps the lights on, the calendar running, and the website rolling down the highway.
Here’s to a great winter in the garage, and I’ll see you down the road!
I’ve collected some of my favourite pictures along with all the car owners that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this summer. I’ve had to guess at the years on a few of these, so if you see anything that requires correcting, let me know. bobtruman@shaw.ca
