It was a beautiful autumn day for the High River Legion’s car show which was being held in conjunction with the Legion’s 100th anniversary.
Smaller events like this always hold a special kind of magic, drawing out hidden gems and garage-kept treasures you’d never spot on the usual show circuit.
Among the standouts was Brad’s 1952 Buick Special, making its very first public appearance. Styling was pure early 50s with the striking waterfall grille, ventiports on the fenders, and the elegant sweep spear running down the side. Brad has kept the car meticulously stock, right down to the original 263-cubic-inch straight-eight under the heavy steel hood. This engine represented the twilight of Buick’s historic inline-eight era, which stretched back to 1931. Buick transitioned to a modern V8 in 1953. Brad says it cruises along effortlessly on the highway at 70 mph.
Beyond the Buick, a couple of other rare surprises stole the spotlight: a beautiful 1938 Nash LaFayette and a cool 1952 Hudson Pacemaker, both making their debut in my viewfinder.
