The Western Canadian Nationals in Moose Jaw delivered an incredible turnout, filling the grounds with hundreds of vehicles I had never laid eyes on before, many of which demanded far more than a passing glance. A major highlight was the eye-catching 1959 Plymouth Sport Suburban owned by Joe Barton from Balgonie, SK.
The rarity on display was exceptional, including a majestic 1937 Graham-Paige(R. Holland from Dugald, MB) and a beautifully preserved 1927 Durant(Dean Young from Vibank, SK). Murray and Leila Smyth made the trip from Kennedy, SK, with their breathtaking 1939 Buick Coupe; its impeccable restoration was a true feast for the eyes.
It turned out to be a scorching day in southern Saskatchewan, with temperatures climbing to 34°C (93°F). Having grown up around here, it brought back memories of my teenage years working on the farm, where hot prairie sun like that was just another day on the job. Sixty years ago I would have been out hauling hay bales rather than admiring classic cars. Returning “home” is always nice, especially with the warm, friendly faces that welcome you at every turn.
My day started early with a 6:15 AM arrival at the Anderson Car Museum, catching the morning light as the first arrivals rolled through the gates. By the time I wrapped up around noon, a lineup of spectator cars stretched a full two kilometres down the road waiting to get in.
Thanks to Cal and Mel Anderson and all the volunteers for a terrific event. There were 496 registered vehicles and 3,000 spectators according to the WCN organizers. Most of the vehicles which I didn’t photograph were probably at the Sunday show which I didn’t attend.

We came down Wednesday and went non stop until Saturday night, unfortunately we had to leave Sunday and missed day 2. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for all their hard work putting together a great event
