Carstairs Show and Shine was the place to be if you liked old cars and friendly dogs. Ruff Start Animal Rescue was one of the charities which this event supports. Nothing could be better than a classic car show along with dozens of happy dogs to pet.
Being my second stop of the day, I arrived a bit late and caught many of the 184 registered cars as they were heading out, though I likely missed a few early departures. The smoke cleared and the sun made an appearance at about 2 pm so the car owners who were in the park welcomed the shade on this sunny, warm day.
One highlight was watching a Ford Model A get push-started, which brought back plenty of memories. The owner had plenty of willing hands to get the engine turning, but back in the day, doing that solo—pushing, jumping behind the wheel, and popping the clutch while rolling—was quite the athletic feat. Being on a slight incline sure helped! You can see an action shot of the push-start in the photo gallery.
