It’s a tradition for dozens of classic vehicles to make the short drive out to the legendary Last Chance Saloon in Wayne on the evening before Boogie in the Badlands car show. Previous to the classic car caravan, I took my bike this year and rode the scenic and historic “11 Bridges” road between Rosedale and Wayne. If you’ve never ridden it, it’s a sensory masterpiece—clattering over old timber bridges, surrounded by the dramatic, striated walls of the Alberta Badlands.
I was scouting for a spot to park myself that would be ideal for taking photos of the cars as they came down the road.
After stowing my bike back in the trunk, I headed for my chosen spot where there was a wide shoulder to park on and I would be in the sun. I didn’t realize, however, that it was such a popular spot. Attractive women in pinup dresses started arriving in their pencil skirts, polka-dot tops, and crimson lipstick. The dusty roadside was transformed into a living 1950s postcard and right there, in the middle of the badlands, a vintage photoshoot came to life.
Of course, it was the cars that I was really interested in and they finally showed up. Lots of spectacular classic vehicles as you will see in the 97 photos I have posted. From polished hot rods to impeccably restored cruisers, it was a second feast for the eyes. This was a wonderful prologue to the main event which happens tomorrow(Saturday) in downtown Drumheller.
