Let’s get started with this one: Arriving an hour before the official 5 PM start time wasn’t early enough. By 4 PM, the GlenDeer A&W was already buzzing with lots of classic cars and I had to take many pictures of cars with their hoods open 🙂 . Between the usual Friday night Cruisin’ at the Junction crowd and the Burgers for MS fundraiser, the eventual turnout was massive.
Andre’s recent acquisition, a shiny red 1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor was one of the “new” vehicles which grabbed my attention. Underneath that sleek, fire-dept trim sits a noticeably “souped-up” Ford flathead V8. The ’39 model holds a special place in Ford automotive history: it was the final year for windshield wipers to be mounted above the windshield glass and also the final year for floor-mounted shifters. Most importantly, 1939 was the landmark year Henry Ford finally gave in to “juice brakes,” replacing the old mechanical rod-and-cable setup with modern hydraulic stopping power.
The green 55 Ford pickup, mostly in stock condition, was another one which I was happy to see. Moving away from bare-bones workhorses, in 1955 Ford heavily marketed the ergonomic comfort of the cab, boasting features like foam-rubber seat cushioning five inches thick and improved visibility. 1955 was also the first year that Ford offered tubeless tires as an option.
