Having an indoor arena to showcase classic rides is an absolute game-changer. Offering an optional indoor display space gives owners that extra peace of mind, and it clearly pays off in turnout. Yesterday, the Calgary, Alberta Iron Indians Pontiac club held their annual Show & Shine at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community giving owners the unique opportunity to park right inside the arena. Seeing stunning custom builds and immaculate classics occupying the very same concrete where hockey is normally played was a great idea.
For the cars outdoors it was a beautiful summer afternoon, despite a lingering touch of smoke. I arrived late and probably missed a few cars that left early but the remaining lineup did not disappoint. The standout stars of my gallery include a phenomenal 1939 forest green Pontiac Coupe and the eventual Best in Show winner, a meticulous1973 Toyota Celica. Another head-turner was the gorgeous1963 Corvette which was showcased in the arena. It serves as a great reminder of automotive history. The controversial rear split window design on the 63 ‘Vette that critics originally dismissed is the very feature that elevates this one-year-only design to legendary status today and is considered one of the most beloved features ever fitted to a Corvette.
With all the nice old restored cars there I can’t believe they gave first place to the 73 toyota celica. Wow!
